About the Cattery
My name is Galina and, having been raised in Moscow, Russia, Siberians are my native breed and natural choice. I loved and adored these cats since my early childhood but have never had a chance to own one before I opened my cattery in Canada. How ironic!
BolshoyDom (i.e., BigHouse in Russian) is a cattery and kennel that has relocated from Ottawa, ON, to Abbotsford (and recently Chilliwack), BC, Canada. My current breeds are Siberian cats and English Golden Retrievers, although throughout the 40+ years I've been blessed with the love of many different animal breeds. My primary reason for breeding is having the little babies running around the house, purring and barking, wagging their tails and climbing up the walls as much as I can handle :)
For many years I have combined the love for animals with raising a family and keeping various careers going (such as, information technology, teaching and intensive care nursing) and only after I became an "empty-nester" and retired from my "day job" could I afford to do full time what I love most. That's what I call - happiness :)
My dogs and cats all live together in perfect harmony as best friends and my adored babies in conditions that allow them to be as close as possible to their true nature, - which I deeply respect. In return, they shower me with their love, daily joy and devotion. I keep and breed only animals that are well socialized and friendly, as well as genetically-sound and healthy, as well as adhere to their breed standards.
Over the years I had raised many champions in various disciplines (such as obedience and agility with dogs, and conformation with both dogs and cats) and enjoyed great results in showing rings but my primary goal is to raise well-socialized animals that my clients would be happy with. I have also enjoyed many-many great and enduring friendships with my clients in every province of this great country and around the world.

Cattery Goals
Over many years in 3 countries and two continents, I have been blessed with having raised generations of animals who are great representatives of their breeds. Among them many national and international champions. My "breeding stock" comes from the best international breeding homes with proven results both in international showing arena and genetic health record. I take care to select breeding animals very carefully and leave in the breeding program only those who help me achieve my breeding goals.
With over 45 years experience in having and breeding dogs and cats, regularly attending shows and continuing professional breeder education, I have gained a lot of specific knowledge and expertise. Although Siberians is my most recent breed that I still learn about every day, I apply tried and proven methods from previous experience with pure-bred animals.
But my primary goal is to breed and raise healthy and well socialized animals that bring a lot of happiness to their families for many years to come, while strictly adhering to the breed standards.

I keep my cattery "closed" - which means that no outside animals get access to the cattery for breeding or other purposes. I.e., I do not provide "stud" services to the outside queens by my sires and do not take my queens to other catteries. I check my cats and cattery regularly on rotational basis once or twice a year to keep them healthy and clear of the common feline infections.
I also do not allow open visits with the pregnant and nursing queens starting from their second half of pregnancy until the kittens are fully vaccinated (between 8 and 10 weeks). In the first 4 to 6 weeks after birth kittens are fully protected by the mother's antibodies they receive through her colostrum and milk. However, the amount of this protection gradually decreases as the kittens grow, and between weeks 6 & 8 becomes questionable. At that age kittens become quite vulnerable to infections.
It is a mistake to think that cats can only be infected by other cats. It is well known that some virulent diseases can be transmitted by humans that come in contact with an infected cat. That`s why, to the great disappointment of the kittens` ``expectant parents``, they may not be allowed to visit with them as much as they would like. However, I understand that need to see the little cuties developing and try to post as many pictures and videos as the time in a busy cattery allows. As a result, most of my clients greatly appreciate my concern for their future charges health and well-being.
My kittens leave the cattery when they are ready and fully socialized starting by week 12. At that age they know how to be a ``good and polite cat``, quickly and easily integrate into their human family and know how to behave around other furry family members, use their litter box without accidents and used to the wide range of foods.

Please note that prior to getting on my waiting list, people who want to join my extended feline family are thoroughly screened for compatibility with my cattery goals, therefore if you are interested in one of my future kittens, please fill out a complete Application, so I can consider you as my future client.
